What Do You Want?

I watched a YouTube video yesterday…not for the first time, it’s one of my favorite videos to watch when I want to re-focus and remind myself that how I spend my time is within my control.

Perhaps the reason it resonates with me so strongly was the fact that I spent too much of my own life doing things that I thought I ‘should’ do as oppose to what I ‘wanted’ to do.

I am now and have been for many years a big believer in doing what you love, with people you love to spend your time with, as tomorrow is never promised.

Grab a cuppa and as you watch ask yourself ‘What are my Big Rocks Today” (be honest with yourself) and then come back to this blog …

Watched it? If not, why not? because you’re “too busy” because you’ve got “things to do”? then you, more than anyone else absolutely need to watch it, go on, watch it now…here’s the link again

So, what are your Big Rocks? And are you prioritizing them? Are you putting your Big Rocks first?

It really makes you think about time, doing more of what’s important to you and not wasting this opportunity we have all been given called life. Time stops for no-one and you can’t get it back. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

What do your Big Rocks have on them today?

  • Family time?
  • You time?
  • Physical and emotional health re-charging time?
  • Progressing your goals time?

What takes priority for you currently? The Big Rocks or the Gravel?

Another reason this video resonates with me to the extent it does is down to the content of the story it’s telling…
A good friend of mine worked hard all his life, spending many more hours at work doing a job he hated than at home with the people he loved the most in the world. He saw life as something that needed to happen until he reached retirement, imagining what it would be like to have the freedom to spend his time as he wanted.
Shortly after retiring he got the devastating news that he had cancer, 6 weeks later he passed away. I wish I could say this is the only example I could share of this happening, it’s not… too many people try to fit the Big Rocks in last.

If life has taught me anything it is to figure out what I want from it, and go for it, today, now! not tomorrow or next week or next month or next year. Don’t wait another week, month, year or decade for the ‘right time’.

All too often I hear people say, “I’ll be happy when ‘X’ happens, I just don’t have time for that right now” … well that’s just not true, you are lying to yourself. You do have time, you’ve not made it your priority, if you had you would create the time for it.

Make today the day that you create time and space to go after your dreams, set goals and make them happen, put the important things first now, today, enjoy every minute and make sure you live to your full potential. If you’re living for the weekend your wasting 72% of your time!!

For me personally, I choose to spend my “work” time creating a world where everyone has access to a ‘Gritty Mindset’ empowering them to be the best possible version of themselves.
I’m a coach, a facilitator of behaviour change, and in the business of helping people realise their goals.

I get the opportunity to do just that, whilst travelling the world, meeting lots of new people and I still create time and space for the people I love. Whatever you love doing – do more of it, when you combine that with work that is truly rewarding there’s your recipe for an amazing life.
